Sarah Bodman

Sarah Bodman is an artist and researcher at the Centre for Print Research, UWE, Bristol, UK. Sarah is also Programme Leader for the MA Multidisciplinary Printmaking course at UWE. She is editor of the Artist’s Book Yearbook, Book Arts Newsletter and The Blue Notebook journal for artists’ books.

Her recent artworks include Read With Me (2022) — the result of a collaboration with a psychometric reader. The project began by accident in winter 2002 at Visual Studies Workshop, Rochester, NY, USA. Read With Me builds upon the experimental book project Read to Me, where the artist told stories to objects which were then ‘read’ back by the psychometric reader. The resulting artist’s book and a selection of the objects read to (and from) toured in their tiny UK / USA exhibition from 2018⁠–⁠19.

Read With Me is the result of a performative drawing event (2019), readings by the psychometric reader, collages made during lockdown and words assembled from the dissected readings. Created in tribute to Susan Hiller’s Sisters of Menon (Coracle Press for Gimpel Fils, 1983), it references the size and cover of the original book. Produced via a remote residency at the London Centre for Book Arts, UK, 2022.
